How do I get access to a safety deposit box?
Our office does not recommend that a person keep their will in a safety deposit box, because there can be issues getting access to it.
If you cannot locate the decedent’s keys or if no authorized signatory on the box is still living, the bank may allow you to examine the contents, in the presence of a bank officer, if you are the spouse, parent or child of the decedent, or if you are named as executor in a photocopy of the will.
